Rich
Berndt is a native of the south Puget Sound area. A
graduate of Washington State University, he specializes
in return to work with difficult cases, job analyses,
life planning, and labor market research. His work is
sought by insurance companies in the area of long term
disability and service bureaus for return to work and
retraining plans, and the Department of Labor and
Industries for multiple services.
Mr. Berndt has been active in many civic and service
organizations since high school when he was elected as
Governor of the Pacific Northwest District of Key Club
International. This led to speaking engagements
throughout the Northwest (four states and three Canadian
provinces) and at International Conventions. Rich has
also served as President of the Tacoma Athletic
Commission, the oldest athletic commission west of the
Mississippi. He was asked by a local clergyman to accept
the position of Founding Chairman-Operation Night watch
of Tacoma (an ecumenical night time ministry) which he
did for the first 18 months of the program. Rich also
served in a Tacoma School District study for school
facility planning and was chairman of the Elementary
West Division for this two year study.
“I believe my experience as a coach in both men's soccer
and girls high school basketball have helped my working
with injured workers in several key areas. First is the
ability to motivate my clients through understanding
their motivations. I am comfortable providing services
to people of all ages and I believe they can feel my
confidence. So many of our injured workers need
encouragement and coaching to get themselves back on
course”. Rich is a USA Registered Soccer Coach and has
spent the majority of his 10 year coaching career in the
U-19 Division. He also coached high school girls
basketball for two summers.
Before joining Industrial Rehabilitation Consultants in
1990, Mr. Berndt held positions in the financial
services industry specializing in marketing and sales
management training. He has been a consultant with a
major provider of military assessment and personality
testing and worked as a feedback consultative for this
organization on special assignments.
